Family Studies

In this project, you will learn about child development, family relationships, and household management. With a focus on child development, you will learn how children grow and develop physically, socially, mentally, and emotionally. You will observe how people express emotions and observe child behavior.

If you choose, you can learn more about consumer skills. Responsible financial management is an important factor in successful families. Possibilities include learning to determine differences between needs and wants, developing a savings plan for specific goals, practicing comparison shopping, learning to manage a checking account, recognizing target advertising, and more.

Fiber Arts

The fiber arts project teaches participants how to make a variety of things. Fiber arts could include crocheting, embroidering, knitting, quilting, and more.

Foods and Nutrition

Develop your culinary skills as you learn to cook the basics, then advance to more advanced meals. You will explore consumer buying skills to get the most for your money. Along the way, you will gain an understanding of healthy eating habits, food safety, meal planning, and cooking techniques, all while building confidence in the kitchen.

Health, exercise, and recreation are vital parts of our daily lives, and this project will help you gain a better understanding of creating a healthy lifestyle. Youth can focus on physical activity, healthy eating, exercise, sports, and recreation.

This project will introduce you to a new world of options with outfits, clothing, and accessories. The clothing construction phase will teach the basics of sewing a shirt or putting a zipper in a pair of pants. As your skills advance, you will learn how to take the design of your choice and customize it for the perfect look, color, and fit.
