Extension Council
The County Extension Council is composed of 24 members. In Pottawatomie County they are elected at large. Six are elected in each of the four program areas, 4-H Youth Development, Community Development, Agriculture and Home Economics. Each one is elected to serve two years. If re-nominated, each may serve two, two-year terms if elected. These six members in each of 4 program areas are called Program Development Committees. All citizens of voting age are eligible to vote. The election is held in conjunction with the 4-H Achievement Ceremony in October.
At the annual meeting, the council elects from its own members, nine people to serve on the executive board, consisting of a chair, vice- chair, secretary, treasurer and five other members. Each commissioner district and each of the four program development committees must represented on the executive board. The Executive Board oversees the function of the County Extension Office. Monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of the month @ 7pm, in the Pottawatomie County Sunflower Room, located at 612 E. Campbell Street, Public Works Bldg. in Westmorleand. The meetings are held to hear agent reports, approved expenditures and give guidance to staff members.
